slowing down

The parakeets have been delivered

and gardening complete

my stomach, too, has found

the butterchicken yum to eat

tomorrow we’ll have pizza

farewells and happy birthdays

today though much to read

four things at a time at once

play spot the difference

imitate and thrive to be

acceptable and sociable but

sleep.

sleep is what my eyes yell

loud enough to drown plans

lids that fall and weigh down

like anchors to the rims

sleep just for an hour

journey to the dream retreat

where all my dreams are real

and we’re    slowing      down

the                                 beat
